| We are pleased to announce several important new titles by leading Korean scholars that signify Global Oriental’s continuing commitment to Korean Studies. In a field that has been sidelined for too long by the dominance of Japan, and now a rising China, we look forward to building a significant interdisciplinary Korea library over time. Our key titles for Spring 2008 include Lee Si-woo’s remarkable literary and pictorial insight into everyday life and the built and natural environments along the Min Tong Line (Demilitarized Zone) in his book Life on the Edge of the DMZ, and Seo Jong-Seok’s incisive appraisal in Korean Nationalism Betrayed of Korea’s post-war preoccupation with the ideological positions taken by both North and South to the detriment of the pursuit of nationalism. The Writings of Han Yongun, one of Korea’s most eminent Buddhists and political activists, contains the first English translation of a cross-section of his writings on the value and application of Socialism. In a broader cultural context, An Illustrated Guide to Korean Mythology by Choi Won-oh offers an invaluable reference for scholars and researchers in the fields of East Asian Mythology and Anthropology, as well as Korean History, Religion and Literature. Finally, soon to be published is the long-awaited two-volume set Korea: The Past and the Present by Susan Pares and J. Hoare, which brings together a cross-section of first-class research which has appeared in the BAKS Papers Series, 1991-2004. |
